Frequently Asked Questions

General

What is CodeCord?

CodeCord is a new and young Discord bot designed to enhance coding discussions and collaboration in Discord servers. It provides code formatting, GitHub integration, regex testing, and other developer-focused features that can be used by anyone - whether you’re running a coding community, managing a development team, working on private projects, or just need coding tools in your server.

Being a new bot, we highly value community engagement and are very receptive to feedback. We encourage users to share their experiences, suggest features, and help shape the bot’s development to better serve everyone’s needs.

Yes, as long as CodeC has access to the channel. The bot respects Discord’s permission system.

Does CodeCord support my programming language?

CodeCord supports most popular programming languages for code formatting. If your language isn’t supported, let us know and we’ll add it.

Can I customize the bot’s behavior?

Yes, many features can be customized through the dashboard or using Discord commands, such as:

  • Default formatting language
  • GitHub notification settings
  • Channel configurations
  • Role mentions

GitHub Integration

Do I need a GitHub account to use CodeCord?

Only for GitHub-related features. Other features like code formatting and regex testing work without GitHub.

Can I use CodeCord with private repositories?

Yes, but you’ll need to install our GitHub App to grant access. We offer two integration levels:

  • Basic (Recommended): Access to pull requests, issues, stars, and forks. No code access required.
  • Extended: Additional features like commit count tracking. While this requires code access permission, CodeCord never reads or stores any code content.

The full list of required permissions is shown clearly during the GitHub app installation process, and you can revoke access at any time.

How secure is the GitHub integration?

  • The basic integration level does not require code access and thus cannot read or store any code.
  • The extended integration level requires code access, but CodeCord never reads or stores any code content.
  • GitHub App uses minimal required permissions as can be seen during installation
  • You can revoke access at any time
  • For private repositories:
    • If enabled, the bot will send notifications about pull requests, issues, build status, and more
    • No code is ever included in these notifications
    • Make sure notification channels have appropriate permissions if the notifications themselves are considered sensitive
    • You can configure which events trigger notifications and where they are sent

Code Formatting

Why isn’t my code being formatted?

Common reasons include:

  • Code not in proper code blocks
  • Bot missing channel permissions
  • Unsupported language
  • Code unexpectedly exceeds maximum length

Can I format code in edited messages?
